چکیده
We offer a new method of reduction for a system of point vortices on a plane and a sphere. This method is similar to the classical node elimination procedure. However, as applied to the vortex dynamics, it requires substantial modification. Reduction of four vortices on a sphere is given in more detail. We also use the Poincaré surface-of-section technique to perform the reduction a four-vortex system on a sphere. 1. Equations of motion and first integrals of a vortex system on a plane. Let us dwell briefly on the basic forms of the equations and first integrals of the point vortices' motion on a plane. A more complete account can be found in [1, 2], where the hydrodynamic assumptions are also given, under which these equations are valid.

Eeective Stability and Kam Theory
The two main stability results for nearly-integrable Hamiltonian systems are revisited: Nekhoroshev theorem, concerning exponential lower bounds for the stability time (effective stability), and KAM theorem, concerning the preservation of a majority of the nonresonant invariant tori (perpetual stability). To stress the relationship between both theorems, a common approach is given to their proo...
متن کاملAnalysis of Lunisolar Resonances in an Artificial Satellite Orbits
The present work deals with constructing a conditionally periodic solution for the motion of an Earth artificial satellite taking into account the oblateness of the Earth and the Luni-Solar attractions. The oblateness of the Earth is truncated beyond the second zonal harmonic 2 J . The resonances resulting from the commensurability between the mean motions of the satellite, the Moon, and the Su...
متن کاملEstimating the state of a geophysical system with sparse observations: time delay methods to achieve accurate initial states for prediction
The problem of forecasting the behavior of a complex dynamical system through analysis of observational time-series data becomes difficult when the system expresses chaotic behavior and the measurements are sparse, in both space and/or time. Despite the fact that this situation is quite typical across many fields, including numerical weather prediction, the issue of whether the available observ...
متن کاملWeak localization and conductance fluctuations of a chaotic quantum dot with tunable spin-orbit coupling
In a two-dimensional quantum dot in a GaAs heterostructure, the spin-orbit scattering rate is substantially reduced below the rate in a bulk two-dimensional electron gas @B. I. Halperin et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 2106 ~2001!#. Such a reduction can be undone if the spin-orbit coupling parameters acquire a spatial dependence, which can be achieved, e.g., by a metal gate covering only a part of ...
متن کاملIntegrability of Discrete Equations Modulo a Prime
We apply the “almost good reduction” (AGR) criterion, which has been introduced in our previous works, to several classes of discrete integrable equations. We verify our conjecture that AGR plays the same role for maps of the plane define over simple finite fields as the notion of the singularity confinement does. We first prove that q-discrete analogues of the Painlevé III and IV equations hav...
